Porto, Portugal
www.ietm.org/porto

More than 500 performing arts professionals from all over the world will gather at IETM Meeting in Porto, organised in collaboration with Teatro Municipal do Porto Rivoli and Bussola, to engage in a collective reflection on the most relevant matters under the main theme Other Centres: art in rural and urban areas, touristification and public spaces, the role of culture in shifting the balance between capitals and peripheries, among others.

The programme will offer more than 30 sessions: keynote speeches, panel discussions, roundtable debates, interactive working groups, practical trainings, networking and mentor sessions. The meeting will also give space for presenting participants’ art projects and initiatives, thus facilitating networking and the emergence of cross-border partnerships. The artistic part of the meeting, compiled from the selection by the local organisers and the programme of Festival DDD Dias Da Dança, will demonstrate the richness of the Portuguese contemporary performing arts scene, showcasing a few international productions as well.

Other Centres: paths, perspectives, practices

A lot has changed since IETM last came to Portugal, two decades ago. Artistic geography itself has become more dynamic than ever. How do the focal points on today’s maps evolve, how do the centres shift and the peripheries transform? Porto, a city which has been performing remarkable cultural policies, will host the challenging debate on how art relates to the processes of transforming centres of creation, dissemination and decision-making.

Besides, the meeting programme will shed light on some of the most vital issues affecting the performing arts professionals today: fair international collaboration, arts and economics, funding accessibility in the arts, market forces in the sector, harassment in the performing arts working place, greening as a holistic approach, documenting live perfomances, among others.

Some of the speakers

Fernanda Silva, creator & performer, Brazil; Alvaro Domingues, geographer, Portugal; Pedro Penim, Teatro Praga, Portugal; Nizar Hariri, Université Saint-Joseph de Beyrouth; Mike Van Graan, Playwright & Producer, South Africa, and more
