Fair practice label in the arts

Talks & workshops

In the midst of budget squeeze and increasing pressure to perform - more and better, how can we assure our arts practices are ethically responsible and sustainable? The United We Stand proposal towards a Fair Practice Label in the Arts is an attempt to respond and to call for solidarity within the sector.

This session aims to gather artists, curators, production teams, institutions, commissionaires, funding bodies, policy makers, etc., around working tables to discuss “best practices” taken from different disciplines in the arts field and to investigate how common actions can lead to effective changes.

How can we preserve the diversity of the arts and guarantee fair relationships in our sector? How do we take care of the flex workers in the sector? How do we guarantee the remuneration and the accrual of social rights for all artists and art workers? How do organizations (small and large) face up to the growing demand for co-responsibility and solidarity with the more vulnerable players? How do we guarantee a fair distribution of resources and the access to (cultural) infrastructure? How can we on the long term assure a fair distribution of revenues in the sector? What kind of agreements would underlie this? How would they be implemented and fulfilled? What role could unions and lobby organisations play? And last but not least: what is fair when the available means are not sufficient?
