Shifting Scales: Art, Globalisation and Territory
This session will investigate how art operators deal with issues of territory and globalisation. The world is in transition: globalisation, migration and urban hybridity have radically affected and continue to reshape the construction of our mental maps. Our habitats and perceptions of language as well as territories have shifted, inevitably affecting our art. How do you deal with these shifting scales and graded perceptions? How are globalisation, localisation and urbanisation affecting your artistic work or choices?
This session will feed the next issue of IETM’s publication series "Fresh Perspectives", done in collaboration with the British Council. The series explores how artists deal with crucial themes in society today, highlighting the high value of contemporary arts and cultural practice as a form of cultural interpretation for both individuals and society at large.
