How do we survive in a group?
This was the question that immediately struck me as I watched the Carte Blanche dancers. The next thing that was evident was the form of a circle, which remained outlined throughout, as though representing a self-contained intention. Rotating on our own axis, orbiting others, gyrating, whirling and spinning to the point of exhaustion or intoxication, turning without end. And so how do we set a course, keep to it, play our part, remain focused and allow ourselves to be carried along amid this whirlwind without beginning or end? • BO

Bouchra Ouizguen
Dancer and choreographer, Bouchra was born in Ouarzazate, the city by the great desert in Morocco. She now lives and works in Marrakesh, where since 1998 she has helped to develop the local dance community and created a number of experimental performances. Bouchra’s interest in the society and visual and popular art of her homeland nourishes her works. She has received several awards for her choreography, and has produced performances for several well-known festivals. She received the New Choreographic Talent Award (2010) from France’s Society of Dramatic Authors and Composers (SACD) and the Jury’s Special Award from the professional trade union of theatre, music and dance critics for her liberating “Madame Plaza”, where she shared the stage with three artists from the Aïta cabaret tradition of singing and dancing.

IETM Porto was made possible thanks to the fact that its dates coincide with Dias Da Dança festival. Thus, we exceptionally agreed to integrate the entire programme of the opening weekend of DDD, including three non-Portuguese performances, in the meeting’s artistic programme.
