Festival DDD: Marco da Silva Ferreira - Brother
What are we looking for together through dance? A performance on common ancestry and the generations remaining in our bodies and surviving the passage of time.
Brother is a creation of seven performers that complements a previous work, Hu(r)mano. Both focus on dance in a group context, but they diverge as far as time references and composition processes are concerned. Brother is made up of constant mimicry between the performers, which generates movement, behaviours and patterns. Non-verbal vocabulary arises, and over time it regenerates and changes through individual compromise or unlocking. Movable bridges between now and faraway emerge and fade away. On a macro-scale, it is a reflection on heritage, memory, codes, and learning and transmission processes. Brother is also a bother. A shot at a common pulse, a feeling of belonging and affection, an echo of outside forces, and at the bottom of an acknowledged frailty that stems from recognising loss and finitude. Staying overnight in this place that is done by doing.
