Mala Voadora - Moçambique

Artistic programme

The three oldest members of Mala Voadora (Flying Bag) were born in Mozambique. One of these is Jorge Andrade. Although he came to Portugal when he was four, in Moçambique, he proposes the construction of an autobiography, as if he had spent his whole life in Mozambique.

And for his story to be credible, he will have to (set it along the lines of) the history of the country. As documentary theatre is only of interest if it tells lies, we will bring documentary images to the fictional context of the theatre, which  does not aim to be truthful. Instead, like a historical novel, it aims to invent a story whose context derives from history. Jorge Andrade will be part of the history of Mozambique.

Mala Voadora
Mala Voadora was founded in 2003 by Jorge Andrade and José Capela, both responsible for the company’s artistic direction. It divides its activity between the creation of performances, the programming of a series of activities focused on mala voadora and also on other activities, such as publishing and teaching. Besides Portugal, mala voadora has presented performances in Germany, Belgium, Bosnia Herzegovina, Brazil, Cape Verde, Scotland, United States of America, Finland, France, Greece, England, Lebanon and Poland. mala voadora is fascinated with artifice – the counter-nature that defines what is specifically human and what can achieve the condition of what is artfully known as “art”.

This venue is fully accessible for wheelchair users.
