ROUTE 4: The iceberg syndrome
The past decades have witnessed the emergence of many new formats in the performing arts. Subsequently, the process of making and showing has widened to include readings, open rehearsals, works-in-progress, showcases of continuous research, site-specific performances, documentary theatre, livestreaming, etc. These new formats focus on the process of creation rather than on performance as a "finished product", and on the involvement of the audience and partners, instead of on delivering to them. The majority of audiences and funders are still attached to the traditional staging in a black-box. Now is an apt time to encourage them to better value new formats which show that the essence of our work lies in the process of creation. Can new media help us with this? The language of the meeting will be English with simultaneous translation into Spanish.
