A new Centre for Performing Arts in Varna

IETM is happy to announce that its post-meeting trip to Varna on 15 -18 June - following the IETM Sofia Plenary Meeting 2024 - concluded in important steps for the performing arts community of Varna. 

Organised in collaboration with Toplocentrala, co-organiser of this year’s Plenary, 18 IETM members and international professionals from 16 countries spent three days in this paramount coastal city of Bulgaria, exploring concepts and potential locations for a performing arts centre, with local community professionals.

Concluding that a marine harbour building - Magazia 7 - offered the most exciting possibilities, representatives met with Varna's Mayor Mr. Blagomir Kotsev, Deputy Mayor for Culture Mr. Pavel Popov to discuss the concept. Mr. Kotsev and Mr. Popov were enthusiastic about the prospect of a new arts centre in Varna and are determined to act fast in the planning and preparation ahead. 

The Varna visit is yet another example of how IETM through the generosity, vision and expertise of its members can bring positive change. Mindful of the contribution of IETM towards the realisation of Toplocentrala in 2014, IETM will follow the process in Varna closely and share news and opportunities with its members and the international performing arts community.
