IETM Out & About: November and December activities
The final two months of 2024 were jam-packed with external engagements and activities for the IETM team. Read all about what our Secretariat got up to below:
Cultural Relation Platform
IETM is one of the partners of the Cultural Relation Platform, an EU funded project led by Goethe-Institut. The CRP supports EU institutions and EU delegations around the world, in pursuing cultural activities, facilitates cooperation, develops research and offers capacity building through its Global Cultural Relations Programme.
On Monday 18 November, our Secretary General Ása represented IETM in one of their bi-annual policy department meetings, where the CRP presented its current and ongoing activities.
Roundtable on Sustainable Production in Cologne
Following this, on 26 November Ása shared an overview of IETM’s sustainability and environmental activities at a Roundtable organise by IETM member Bundesverband Freie Darstellende Kunste (BFDK) in Cologne. The event is part of a project currently being run by BFDK on sustainable production and will bring together stakeholders from the performing arts and music sectors to develop a catalog of measures for a voluntary commitment to more sustainable production.
90th Anniversary of the British council
3 December marked the 90th anniversary of one of IETM’s long standing Associate Members, the British Council. Founded in 1934, they contribute to IETM’s almost 44 year history, and have been invaluable to our development as a network. We send this important organisation our warmest gratitude and birthday wishes with hope of many more years of strong collaboration to come.
Collaborations and local events
On 20 November, IETM Production Manager Roisin and IETM Membership Manager Margherita attended a lunch reception organised by the Associate Member Wales Arts International to learn more about the new report by Welsh Parliament’s Culture and International Relations Committee, entitled ‘Culture Shock: Culture and the new relationship with the EU’.
As well as this, various team members attended the PROXIMAMENTE Festival in Brussels, home to the Secretariat, organised by IETM member KVS - Koninklijke Vlaamse Schouwburg. During the festival, professionals from all over Europe meet up and connect with talents and perspectives from South America and its diasporas via works-in-progress, lectures, showcases, round tables, talks, gatherings and more.
Finally, on 5 December Margherita attended the event 'Landscape Sketch of the Arts: session Dance' organised by IETM member Kunstenpunt in Bruges (Belgium). The session delved into how dance as an inclusive practice of care continues to evolve, and asked the participants to look at what the (new) needs are within the sector, where change is required and what changes are already in place.
YPAM and HOT POT
Last week, Ása travelled to Japan to attend Yokohama International Performing Arts Meeting (formerly known as TPAM) and HOT POT - the unique south east asian dance platform, organised biannually between three festivals based in Japan, South Korea and Hong Kong.
Ása, alongside Ratri Anindyajati, IETM Global Connector and director of the Indonesian Dance Festival, had a dialogue with Mariko Tsukaguchi, President and Secretary General of ON-PAM on the value and challenges of international collaboration.
She also took part in a symposium hosted by HOT POT on the position and future of performing arts platforms.
IETM members ON PAM and PARC were key organisers of the these events in Yokohama and IETM enjoyed experiencing the performing arts landscape of Yokohama, the work of the contributing artists while sharing and listening to the viewpoints of the many professionals attending.
