Call to participate in Fly The Flag for human rights campaign, 24-30 June 2019

Will you Fly The Flag for human rights?

Fly The Flag is an ambitious collaboration between arts organisations and human rights charities, marking the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. We invited artist and activist Ai Weiwei to design a flag as a symbol for universal human rights, which was unveiled at our launch on the anniversary date, 10 December 2018. We would love you to join us and be part of this.

The project was born out of the realisation that today many people don’t know what their human rights are, and we risk forgetting them at our peril. So far, more than 100 organisations have signed up to support the project. As arts and cultural organisations our work is an embodiment of Article 27 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, ‘Everyone has the right freely to participate in the cultural life of the community, to enjoy the arts…’

You can find out more about Fly The Flag here and sign up to be an advocate by emailing [email protected]

As an advocate you would commit to:

Flying the flag between 24 – 29 June 2019 -.  You are free to interpret this in any way that excites you and your community, although we’d encourage you to Fly The Flag in as publicly-visible a way as possible.  There will be physical flags you can fly, but we encourage you to think of other ways that you might support Fly The Flag. This might include dedicating performances or exhibitions to the project.  You don’t have to programme new work but many organisations are planning special events.

Supporting the Fly The Flag campaign by listing your Fly The Flag activity on your website from April 2019 and supporting the project at key moments during the campaign on social media. We will provide logos, images, content and other assets to enable you to do this

Helping us spread the word – encourage your audiences, participants, artists, staff, partners and supporters and any schools you work with to Fly The Flag.  Please extend this invitation to your networks and anyone you think should join in.

We really hope you’ll join us to make this a powerful UK-wide moment of hope, togetherness and creativity.
