Ministers of Culture emphasise the importance of Creative Europe and cultural cooperation
The Ministers of Culture from all 27 EU member states have sent a joint letter to Executive Vice-President of the European Commission Hanna Virkunen, European Commissioner for Culture Glenn Micallef, and European Commissioner for Budget Piotr Serafin. In their letter, the Ministers called on the European Commission to continue providing targeted and visible support for Europe’s cultural and creative sectors in the upcoming EU multi-annual financial framework.
The Ministers underscored the essential role of culture in preserving Europe’s shared values, enriching its identity, strengthening social cohesion, and driving innovation and competitiveness. They emphasised that the Creative Europe programme is crucial for safeguarding and promoting Europe’s cultural diversity, creativity, artistic freedom, and freedom of expression. It remains a vital instrument for protecting cultural heritage, fostering creativity, and supporting the audiovisual sector across the continent.
The Ministers also stressed the importance of continuing EU-level support for cooperation and content creation within the cultural and creative sectors. Such support, they noted, must be visible, inclusive, and sustainable, with creativity and cultural diversity at its core. They stated that 'The need for such cooperation at the EU level has never been more urgent, particularly in light of the ongoing digital transformation and the rapidly changing global landscape.'
