Swedish Presidency of the EU Council (January-June 2023)
The four priorities of the Swedish Presidency address security, competitiveness, green and energy transition, and the rule of law and democratic values. In relation to culture, Sweden will focus its work on the topic of freedom of artistic expression. The Presidency intends to address artistic freedom by linking it to the urgency of improving working conditions in the cultural and creative sectors, and by highlighting the conditions of displaced artists
On 16-17 February in Umeå, Sweden will organise a Conference under the title “Free to Create – European Union Conference on Artistic Freedom and Cultural and Creative Industries",
Representatives from the European institutions, NGOs and the artistic sector will gather for two days to discuss the freedom to create from various aspects.
