Our recent survey proved that the international artistic community has been showing enormous solidarity and creativity dealing with the challenging reality caused by the COVID-19 crisis. However, it is evident that it is up to national governments to rescue the cultural sector from total devastation. We suggest you take two actions:
- Here is our Plea to National Governments: please disseminate it as widely as possible and make sure it reaches your government! If you translate it, please share the translation with us. The French version will be available soon.
- The European Union has created the Coronavirus Response Investment Initiative (CRII) to support your country to mitigate the consequences of the COVID-19 crisis. If you scroll down this page, you will find the European Commission’s letter sent to your national government, where the respective amount dedicated to your country is specified. It is up to each Member State to decide how they spend the CRII money.
We have drafted a letter for you to address to your national or regional Managing Authority (a dedicated body responsible for distributing the EU Cohesion Funds), to request that they support culture and the arts through the CRII instrument.
You can find the letter here. Please feel free to modify it as you see fit and / or translate it in your language. You can check here what is / are the Managing Authority(ies) in your country, which need(s) to be addressed.
Please act as soon as possible, as in a few days it might be too late.
If you need any further support regarding advocacy on the national, regional or local level, we are happy to help.
