Hundreds of artists and other cultural professionals will gather in the Serbian capital Belgrade on 29 September to 02 October for the IETM Belgrade Plenary Meeting 2022, organised by IETM - International Network for Contemporary Performing Arts within the frame of the 56th Belgrade International Theatre Festival (Bitef).
Promising to promote four days of exchanges full of artistic works, participatory discussions and training, the meeting will be a key event for the performing arts sector to address its own labour market, and living and working conditions in the midst of conflicts, tensions and neoliberal exploitation. The meeting will also look at how labour is transforming in the performing arts sector, with a particular eye on feminist, intersectional and ecological solutions.

The opening keynote, lead by Tomislav Medak, BADCo, Croatia and joined by IETM Secretary General Ása Richardsdóttir and Ivan Medenica, director of Bitef Festival, will retrace the entwined historical trajectories of dance and labour.

Jelena Vesić, Independent Curator, Writer, Editor and Lecturer, Serbia, will reflect on the discourse around love and money in the arts.
IETM expects hundreds of participants from across the globe to participate in the meeting. Journalists interested in the Serbian performing arts scene, labour and working conditions in the performing arts or events taking place in the international performing arts sector may be particularly interested to write about the event.
IETM welcomes journalists from all countries writing in all languages to report on the event.

Bitef Festival - Transcending all political and cultural borders, for half of a century, Bitef has managed to keep pace with a tumultuous evolution of performing arts. They bring to Belgrade some of the biggest names in the world. This year's Bitef festival, the 56th in a row, will be held from September 23 to October 2. The thematic focus of the festival, held under the slogan “We - The Heroes of Our Own Labour”, will address the issue of labour in contemporary society: loss of employment, precarious work, the labour market in the wake of the pandemic, professional requalification, etc. Bitef has pre-served its place in the family of major international festivals. It was founded by the Belgrade City Council, whereas Bitef Theatre is in charge of the production and organisation.
