The European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018 takes off
The European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018 (EYCH 2018) has been officially launched at the European Culture Forum, on 7 December, in Milan.
The Council, in its conclusions of 21 May 2014, stated that cultural heritage encompasses a broad spectrum of resources inherited from the past in all forms and aspects — tangible, intangible and digital (born digital and digitised), including monuments, sites, landscapes, skills, practices, knowledge and expressions of human creativity, as well as collections conserved and managed by public and private bodies such as museums, libraries and archives.
The aim of the EYCH 2018 is to encourage more people to discover and explore Europe’s rich and diverse cultural heritage, and to reinforce a sense of belonging to a common European space. This short overview provides more information about the main aims and objectives of the EYCH 2018.
As other European Years, 2018 will be implemented through initiatives and events at European, national, regional and local levels.
EU will fund projects supporting cultural heritage through the existing programmes. A dedicated call for cooperation projects relating to the year was launched under the Creative Europe programme (deadline expired on 22 November), and new calls will be out in 2018.
Additional opportunities will be available under Erasmus+, Europe for Citizens, Horizon 2020, and other EU programmes.
At country level, the Year is being organised by national coordinators, designated by each EU Member State.
