Audiences as creators of content
The fourth wall still has to be torn down to integrate audiences in the performing arts world. If the audience number seems to be decreasing, can it be caused by a possible misunderstanding between audiences and artists whose communication on their artistic intentions goes one way? Have artists monopolised the right to contemporaneity?
The movement for democratising culture can only succeed with the democratisation of critics and openness to a diversity of interpretations. Authors, directors and critics can no longer ignore the capacity of audiences to attribute meanings. Audience can and should reclaim its role as a generator of content.
