Artistic walk 4: Croatian National Theatre Ivan pl. Zajc
Throughout this walk, you will be able to see the exterior and parts of the interior of the Croatian National Theatre Ivan pl. Zajc building. Very luxurious, it was built in the second half of the 19th century. One of the particularities inside the building is the ceiling painted by Franz Matsch, together with famous brothers Gustav and Ernest Klimt. The Croatian National Theatre Ivana pl. Zajc is one of the main partners in the Rijeka 2020 – European Capital of Culture project. The theatre slogan for the next two years is “Practicing Diversity”. Its 2019/2020 season includes a NeedCompany festival, a new production by top Greek choreographer Andonis Foniadakis, new opera productions such as Wagner's Tristan and Izolda… In addition, the theatre focuses notably on the social and political engagement of the performing arts, exploring it through audience development and social inclusion programmes.
