Maximum capacity: 50 participants

In the 8ème arrondissement of Lyon, we will visit two very different but emblematic structures of the Lyon performing arts scene. Participants will be able to discover local projects and discuss aesthetics, artistic creation as well as audience development via the topic of disability in the arts. We will get inspiration from local initiatives to reflect on the status of the European cultural sector when it comes to creating equal opportunities for disabled artists and professionals.

IETM Board members attending this Parcours:
Susanne Naess Nielsen, Dansearena nord, Norway

IETM Advisors attending this Parcours:
Isa Köhler, Internationale Tanzmesse NRW, Germany

Who’s here?

Meeting point: Nouveau Théâtre du 8e, 22 Rue du Commandant Pegout, 69008 Lyon | Event Map | Venue Accessibility

This speed-dating session is smaller than our usual “Who’s there?”. It will take place at the beginning of each parcours, so participants can get to know who is who in the crowd.

Nicolas Bertrand, Consultant, France

11:30 - 12:30
Visit of Nouveau Théâtre du 8ème (NTH8)

Location: Nouveau Théâtre du 8e, 22 Rue du Commandant Pegout, 69008 Lyon | Event Map | Venue Accessibility

Based in the United States neighbourhood, in the 8th district of Lyon, the Compagnie des Trois-Huit has been developing an original experience in association with other artists and companies on a regional and international scale, since 2003. Based in the NTH8 / Nouveau Théâtre du 8e,  their research work focuses on contemporary writing, as well as on the transmission of theatrical practices and on infusing art into the urban communities.

At the NTH8, we can find (among others) teams in the process of creation, apprentice performers in training, children, teenagers, residents who are participating in artistic workshops, a Theatre and French Sign Language department and more.

The NTH8 team will present its approach as a collective, its projects and the process of transmission to young artistic groups in which it is involved.

Speakers
Vincent Bady, NTH8, France
Anthony Guyon, Compagnie On Off, France

14:00 - 14:50
Access for disabled audiences in an institutional context

Location: Maison de la Danse, 8 Av. Jean Mermoz, 69008 Lyon | Event Map | Venue Accessibility

As a place where dance and the most diverse aesthetics meet, the Maison de la Danse strongly claims to be welcoming all audiences.
How does this Lyon-based international institution approach the issue of accessibility for people with disabilities?

The Maison de la Danse team will present the numerous mediation actions they have put in place to tackle interpretation of choreographic works in French Sign Language, audio description services, production of shows in specialised institutions. This will also be an opportunity to talk about the municipal public policy that aims to support the creation of a more accessible cultural offer.

During our visit, we will also get to know Numéridanse, the multimedia dance platform which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. It is a unique video collection accessible to all, an innovative resource for artistic and cultural education.

Speakers
Dominique Hervieu, Maison de la Danse, France
Ghislaine Hamid-Le Sergent , Maison de la Danse, France

Time to Act session

Location: Maison de la Danse, 8 Av. Jean Mermoz, 69008 Lyon | Event Map | Venue Accessibility

52% of European performing arts professionals rate their knowledge of work by disabled artists as either poor or very poor.

87% of European venues and festivals don't involve disabled people in selection panels or in the commissioning process.

How can we address these questions and act at the level of programmers, venues but also companies and collectives?
How can the level of knowledge of disabled artists’ works be increased and nurtured? How do we ensure that experiences and learnings of small and independent companies, venues and festivals are considered and recognised? How do we move beyond ticking the box of ‘disability’ in one’s funding application and towards a cultural ecosystem that is genuinely more equitable, inclusive and diverse in its cultural programming?

This session will explore some of the initial findings of a major new study spanning 40 European countries into the barriers that disabled people experience when accessing the arts, with a particular focus on programming works by disabled artists in Europe. This session is conceived by the British Council, part of the Creative Europe project Europe Beyond Access in collaboration with On the Move and the researchers associated to the Time to Act Report.
