Contemporary circus performance is booming throughout Europe, as well as in Canada and Australia. Contemporary circus practitioners are slowly gaining institutional recognition, but their financial resources are still not comparable to those of other disciplines of the performing arts. Surveys conducted report that the majority of these operators and artists experience precarious working conditions in Europe and the five elements of Education, Creation, Production, Distribution, Documentation rarely exist within one single country. However, the circus arts have used this opportunity to take innovative approaches in international partnerships with festivals, higher educational programs.
