In this workshop, Ezenwa Okoro will introduce the method of Legislative Theatre, which he has been promoting in Nigeria with a focus on participants between the ages of 18 and 35. Originating in Brazil in the early 90s, Legislative Theatre uses role-playing to engage community members in identifying solutions to unjust and inequitable systems and institutions. Ezenwa will share his experiences using this method. The workshop will also allow for the participants to experience the method hands-on, using role-play and improvisation. Ezenwa is a poet and social justice advocate with fifteen years’ experience working directly with art communities in West Africa focusing on social mobilisation, gender equity and human rights.
