Working in small communities, non-formal education for underprivileged Roma youth (area: Miskolc).
SpecStreet Theatre has been working in the most underprivileged and rural area of Hungary for several years. Their main aim is to provide cultural services including performances, non-formal theatre education, community activities for mostly Roma/minority youngsters. The group invites delegates to the closing meeting of the international Except program – the exchange and research of community-based performing art practices and education. Next summer SpecStreet Theatre will continue their international Academy program to study new ways of working with under-privileged youth through special social art practices.
In the afternoon the group will visit the most well-known and highly successful school for segregated youths named after Dr. Ambedkar. Delegates will meet the leaders of the institution, as well as teachers of the Hungarian Juggling Association, who introduced juggling instead of regular P.E. classes in this truly unique secondary school.
