The Dog Days Are Over - Jan Martens
Ask someone to jump and you’ll see their true face, said the American photographer Philippe Halsman. What is the true face of dance in these uncertain times? What would we like to show, what would we like to see? The Dog Days Are Over shows eight dancers that give in to one physical act: the jump. A repetitive exhaustion, that will prove the dancers to be nothing more than performers, at the service of… yes, what exactly? A critical performance about the thin line between art and tricks.

Press quotes
“Dog Days dismantles the mechanisms of theatre and the desire for entertainment, to re-claim the stage as a place of encounter between human and human.” De Standaard
“A literally breath-taking dance that makes the spectator an embarrassed voyeur, witness of so much willingly suffering. Yet at the same time all that jumping makes up a clear statement about the raging chaos with which we rush through a more and more superficial life.” knack.be
“Jan Martens conjures a mesmerizing choreography of nothing but jump strength and geometry.” De Volkskrant
