Excursion The Urban Stage of Amsterdam West
The theatre offers a diverse, accessible and high quality programme that revolves around the most crucial topics of today’s reality. The Meervaart is a modern, middle-sized theatre situated in the city’s largest district; it draws inspiration from the rich cultural diversity of the population surrounding it.
The excursion will start with an inspiring talk by Andreas Fleischmann, director of Meervaart Theatre, followed by the performance The Radicalisation of Sadettin K. A socially critical, hyper personal portrait, in which Sadettin Kirmiziyuz examines his own work-life balance. The birth of his son has radically changed his outlook on the world together with his views on theatre itself. In the past few years, Sadettin has been praised for his light, witty, and eloquent way of staging complex themes such as integration, terrorism, and populism. But what have these performances really achieved? Have we made any progress? Or is it time for something much more radical? Why, he asks himself, have I never radicalized? The excursion will end with a post-show talk with Sadettin Kirmiziyuz.
