Deeply touched by the first French experiment in cinema vérité, Justine Lequette and the actors direct the key questions of Chronique d’un été (1960), a documentary film by Edgar Morin and Jean Rouch, to passers-by, students, workers, and immigrants of today’s society. By asking questions of happiness, life, work, and utopias, the performance puts these two periods into perspective whilst also drawing on documentary sequences by Pierre Carles, extracts from plays by Alexandra Badea and improvisations by the actors. The focus on the meaning of our existence creates an aesthetic that, despite being inspired by real life situations, maintains a playful dimension.
