Meanwhile in the Countryside
One cannot understand the city without understanding the countryside. The countryside is now the frontline of transformation, a mix of genetic experiment, industrial nostalgia, seasonal immigration, territorial buying sprees, incidental inhabitation, massive subsidies, tax incentives and … political turmoil. Rural areas’ populations are regarded as being the most responsive to populist discourses. Is this only because they feel unheard and unseen? Because 90% of the cultural budgets is spent in cities while 40% of the European population still lives in the countryside? How can artists (re)connect with the rural populations and fill the gap between city and rural areas? Time to share experiences, knowledge and networks.
