Assailed by a culture of crisis, we are all still working in the arts. What do we really think and believe about the arts as a regenerative force, about the power of art to reflect society in such a way that important questions are raised? We know that positive engagement with cultural diversity is necessary to adapt our social structures to match current social transformation, but how are we actually doing on this score? Is it merely talk, or are there some inspirational models? What still needs to be done, and by whom? The younger generation is our hope for the future, but is there a supportive environment for them or does the older generation hang on to the power positions they once fought against? Will new communications technology somehow be the magic solution to all these issues, or will it change the rules of the game so dramatically that our very perspective loses its meaning? Will this very strong panel provide answers, or still more questions?
