Cultural Diversity, Cultural Realities (with simultaneous translation)
Our current system of evaluation and support for artistic creation no longer corresponds to the multidisciplinary, multiethnic, and multigenerational cultural diversity that exists in our cities. It seems that governments are willing to sign the UNESCO Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions, but what are they doing in their own territories to encourage a cultural production that reflects the cultural realities of society today, not only on a multiethnic level, but on an interdisciplinary one as well? What are we, as cultural practitioners, presenters, and producers doing to address cultural realities within our own countries? When we speak of cultural diversity, is it simply in terms of distinct ethnic groups and their demographic percentages, or are we talking about multiple voices, hybrid identities, and the merging of different traditions and disciplines in a work of art?
