The Eco Show - Necessary Angel Theatre Company
FAMILY VIVARIUM. If the beating of a butterfly’s wings can beget tornadoes thousands of miles away, our relationships with our immediate and extended family, as well as our history and memory, are directly linked to our ecosystem. This is certainly the case in the eyes of Daniel Brooks and Chris Abraham. The Eco Show, an examination of one family’s history that contains multiple drawers and false bottoms, is an ecological fable that takes a humorous look at the home environment of human beings and how they relate to other members of their species. In an era when the environment and ecology are front-page news, Hamm and his family are studied in their threatened natural habitat, and the picture is far from rosy. Connected with significant productions such as The Lorca Play, Insomnia, Cul-de-sac and Half Life, all of which were previously presented at the FTA, Brooks has joined forces with rising star Chris Abraham for the new opus of Necessary Angel Theatre Company, itself home to a group of artists who are convinced that theatre is a social and profoundly political art providing essential entertainment for a world hovering on the brink of the abyss.
