The Map of Identity / Hate Speech - Anton Romanov’s workshop ‘Nontheatre’ / Scene 6
The Map of Identity / Hate Speech is a participatory and performative monologue of a naked and seemingly vulnerable human being about losing one’s identity, and an attempt to understand the reasons of one’s intolerance towards identities of others.
Anton Romanov was born and grew up in Crimea, Ukraine, and moved to Kyiv after Russia’s annexation of Crimea in 2014. He is Russian with Ukrainian citizenship. Anton worked as stage director and performer in various theatres across Ukraine. Anton is openly gay.
“I’m trying to define and broaden the boundaries of performance art. There is almost nothing left of traditional theatre in this show. Perhaps this is an anti-performance or a-performance, or something entirely different. This is an attempt to understand one’s own identity and to identify others. The show will test the audience’s sincerity and courage, and will require them to take responsibility for their actions.”
