Pussycat (The Lieutenant of Inishmore) - Wild Theatre / Scene 6
This very dark comedy is winner of Taking the Stage 2017 – the British Council’s annual theatre programme.
Paedric is a cruel and ruthless murderer who holds the whole of Ireland in fear. He knows no mercy. Like a hurricane, he rushes around the country sweeping everything in his way. There is only one creature in the whole world to which Patrick has real feelings. That creature is in trouble, and Paedric is now craving revenge…
Ireland and Ukraine have a lot in common in terms of history and nationalist movements. Kitten (The Lieutenant of Inishmore) re-actualises McDonagh’s black comedy by transferring it, geographically and culturally, to rural Ukraine. This hilarious and brutal production explores and mocks the formation of national identities and ideas, and the dark sides of their radical representations.
Wild Theatre is one of the most popular independent theatres in Ukraine, founded in February 2016. It creates acute social performances and that surprise and shock. ‘Not recommended for children and people with fragile psyche.’
