Trans-border collaboration
Independent artists in Eastern Europe have often felt unrecognised - if not isolated - in their own societies and internationally. But with the recent transformations – in all directions - things started to change: in some of the Eastern European countries, artists became major players in creating new narratives and they are engaging more and more in trans-border collaborations and international networks.
What incites us to engage in co-productions, international meetings and other forms of transborder cooperation? Is it a source of strength in times of national/regional constraint, or does it just highlight the inequalities of those lacking access to information and resources? What does “East” and “West”, "North" and "South" mean when collaborating across borders? What challenges and opportunities does geographical remoteness or isolation bring? What is the role of networks, like ours, for the “peripheral” arts communities? What tools should one have to make the best out of networking opportunities?
