The shanty evening unites the audience at tables, singing, drinking, celebrating melancholy, loneliness and the need for departure. Blow Boys Blow mixes old times’ nautic songs with the present day and lets them clash with contemporary theatre. Everything familiar is seen in a new light, as if from a distant shore. With this journey, “the crew of seven performers pay homage not only to the traditional link between the world of theatre and that of sailors, but also to the particular community of the evenings’ guests, enjoying the songs, the dances and the rum.” (Dennis Deter)

The company was put together  especially for this production. All members are theatre professionals, some had been working together in contemporary dance productions beforehand. The production was devised by the team under the artistic direction of Dennis Deter (Berlin).
