CANCELLED: Transformers / KGI
With humour, energy and a big cast, Transformers explores forms of society beyond national and economic collectives. The group consists of old-age-pensioners, artists, refugees, unemployed persons and children. Identities and individual fates are melted into a colourful, vibrant yet fragile picture of our present times. “KGI has invited people to join them on stage and to form a compendium of biographic and historic documentarisms, of gestures and movements, obviously belonging to their time, to her and his stories. But which story belongs to whom – and who is who?” (KGI)
KGI (Hamburg) was founded in 2013 by performing arts graduates. The group wants to utilise their different political and aesthetic positions towards an egalitarian theatre, melting technical stage skills and sound theoretical knowledge with a clear political attitude. Genres ranging from theatre to film, dance and opera are appropriated and transformed, involving mostly people with little affinity to high-brow culture. KGI has collaborated with, among others, Ringlokschuppen Ruhr in Mülheim, Theater Oberhausen, Maxim Gorki Theater Berlin, Mainfrankentheater Würzburg, Staatstheater Darmstadt, Theaterfestival Favoriten and the Performing Arts Festival Berlin. Since 2018, KGI has been receiving funding for Das Symptom der Oper by the Bundeskulturstiftung within the Fonds Doppelpass Plus.
