Opening dialogue: Acting Europe
In their opening keynote Austrian author Robert Menasse (The Capital, 2017) and Ulrike Guérot, Head of the Department for European Policy and the Study of Democracy at the Danube University Krems, dream of a united Europe without national borders but with real civic participation, based on the rule of civic equality of all European citizens and redistributing the decentralised power to the smaller regional centers. There is no one to better advocate such daring ideas than the spearhead of contemporary art, the performing arts! But is this spearhead really that sharp? Is it at least pointing in the right direction, combining all forces? Can Europe be saved by acting it out or is it all just pretense and play, with the world being a stage?
