Forced Entertainment. Speak Bitterness: our catalogue of confessions
“We’re guilty of homemade bombs and homemade wine. We’re guilty of coldness and spite. We never laughed and we never found the time....”
Over 6 hours a group of penitents, dressed in suits behind a long table, have the enormous task to confess to everything. They are by turns cowed, breezy, anguished, reluctant, jovial and determined. From somewhere between a mad catalogue of unlikely human infamy and the transcript of some strange and comical show-trial, they meet the gaze of the audience, speaking softly, drawing them in and admitting to it all.
Please note, this is a live stream of a six-hour durational performance taking place at Frascati, Amsterdam. You’re invited to arrive, depart and return at any point.
First presented in 1994 (Commissioned by National Review of Live Art Glasgow).
