Garmon, American, lives and works in Berlin and France. In collaboration with visual and soud artists she creates performance installations, which generate an intense emotional and poetic atmosphere for her texts, her voice and dance. The premiere of her last solo "Take me home with you" was at the festival Uzes Danse France and the Tanznacht Berlin.

The performance adapts these processes and shows how fast a special kind of group can form. About the time preceding her first documents, Miriam Yung Min Stein had only the mythical information obtained from the adoption services office: “In 1977 you were found wrapped in newspaper inside a box in South Korea.” How does one tell the story of one’s origins when, as in Stein’s case, the recording can begin with arriving in a German airport? “Black Tie” orbits the black hole of ancestry as well as the odd and much discussed human genetics issues of today’s support industry.

After three pieces using larger texts as their subject – Schiller’s “Wallenstein,” the first volume of Marx’s “Capital” and the “Breaking News” of the evening news – Rimini Protokoll’s new work directs its microscopic gaze to the documents of a life.

The project ON RAGE puts up the question whether there is a new "culture of rage" in the current economic and political crises. How can this rage be tapped for positive future developments? The artists, among them Regina José Galindo, Klara Liden and Michael Rakowitz, examine the impulse of "rage" in trans-cultural and trans-historical perspectives. It will be thematized how rage erupts under specific living conditions and in communities.                                                                                           

ÜBER LEBENSKUNST - THE ART OF SURVIVAL: CALL FOR FUTURE; The Kulturstiftung des Bundes and the Haus der Kulturen der Welt are jointly launching a two-year program entitled ÜBER LEBENSKUNST, initiative for art and sustainability. The program takes up the “ecological revolution” as an individual and cultural challenge. It proceeds from the thesis that fundamental cultural change can only be achieved if new alliances are sought within the domains of civil society, science, business, politics, education and culture. Central to the project is the conviction that spaces must be created which are both close to people’s everyday realities and generate a “global awareness” for researching and practicing sustainable activities. To this end, the project is inviting outstanding international actors from the fields of art and culture, the sciences, social practice, politics, civil society, the business world and the sphere of education to examine individuals’ experience of the ecological crisis and the sustainability of our civilization. We are looking for ideas, people and projects that seek to create and test ecologically sustainable and globally equitable lifestyles. Andrea Peschel, co-ordinator of the program, and one of the curators will present and discuss key elements and ideas of the project.

During some 100 days more than 800,000 people were massacred in Ruanda. What was the UN Security Council’s role in this incident? „Ruanda revisited“ is about the case of the General Romeo Dallaire. The play is based on Dallaire’s elaboration of an emergency plan for an international intervention, as well as on Ruanda’s European colonial history, which was the origin of an ethical division into Hutu and Tutsi. What caused these conflicts and what are the rules that the protagonists of the peace keeping missions must follow? 

Author: Hans-Werner Kroesinger dealt in "herero 100" with the German colonial war in Namibia, dating more than 100 years back and last showed at HAU "History Tilt", a play on the silence concerning the genocide of the Armenians and "Beirut Report".

Hebbel am Ufer shows the filmed documentation of Stefan Kaegi’s theatre production “Radio Muezzin”. Four muezzins from Cairo take to a carpeted stage at Hau 2 and talk about their lives and jobs. In their stocking feet, as if in a mosque, they show family snapshots and pictures of their neighbourhoods and explain to the audience how to wash and pray according to Muslim ritual. “Radio Muezzin” is a one-act documentary play performed in Arabic with English subtitles.

The concept arose after a decision in 2004 by the Egyptian Minister of Religious Affairs who announced “that the public racket caused by Cairo’s hundreds of muezzins leading the daily calls to prayer over scratchy loudspeakers across the city was simply too much for residents to bear any longer. The 30 best muezzins chosen by the Ministry would take turns broadcasting the call to prayer live via a dedicated radio channel.” (New York Times, 18/03/2009)
