Ant Hampton’s contribution to the IETM’s Green School will be spread over three sessions, each 90 minutes long, and looks into the concept of ‘Showing Without Going’: the practical, theoretical, artistic, ethical and logistical implications of creating, producing, programming, sending, receiving and/or presenting LIVE performance work without the artist travelling.
Through this, he offers his earlier workshop/performance created with Christophe Meierhans - ‘The THING’ - by allowing participants to experience the first of what is normally a four day experience that runs ‘automatically’, entirely without anyone present leading it. The THING gently leads its participants towards an identification of someTHING they could do to make a ‘much needed change’ to the world as well as to oneself. While this quest is deeply personal, the workshop also activates the group, using collective dynamics and shared perspectives.
Structure & Format:
Tuesday 11 March
The first session begins with a 90-minute ‘scattershot seminar’ featuring many examples of actions by other artists, activists and professionals from neither field who simply combined conviction with imagination to produce startling and urgent results.
Tuesday 18 March
The THING’s first episode will continue with a second session through a series of ‘trials’, where the group members follow a partially-filled script, taking on the role of judges, prosecutors, witnesses and perpetrators. They will ask questions and delve deeper into the implications and reasoning behind different acts of ‘beautiful disruption’, some of them taken from the earlier seminar.
Tuesday 25 March
For the third and last session, Ant will explore the ‘Atlas’ of ‘Showing Without Going’, an online and ongoing resource that has proved deeply motivating for professionals of all kinds in the performing arts.
Registrations to the workshops will open on Monday 24 February 2025 after the online kick off session: REGISTER FOR THE KICK OFF
