In the city
Although the city of Brussels has adopted a 'Disability, Inclusion and Universal Accessibility' action plan since 2018, Brussels is still moderately accessible and clear information about access at different locations is not easy to find. Other than the city centre itself not being easy to navigate for wheelchair users, a big number of restaurants and cafés are not step free, not all public transport is wheelchair adapted and sound signals are not available in all public transport lines.
Nevertheless, all metro stations now have Braille signage and most crossroads are equipped with sound signals.
For an overview of the accessible offer in Brussels, check out Handy.Brussels guide and access-i.be.

At the meeting
It is our aim to make IETM Brussels Focus as accessible as possible. However, it may not be possible to offer services at every location and, therefore, we recommend that you check the location of your interest.
The accessibility of each venue will be uploaded upon confirmation of the full programme.
All accessibility details which are provided online are collected based on the information received from the venues' staff and their websites. If you need more information, please get in touch with venues directly.
There will be a range of accessibility services available at the meeting.
As we have budget restrictions and are dependent on the local infrastructure, we cannot always guarantee that the conditions will be the same from one meeting to another. Nevertheless, for this meeting we are able to:
- Offer a free registration to your support worker;
- Send you a large print version of the programme;
- Provide speech-to-text captions for all plenary sessions of the meeting programme – details of these services will be available online upon confirmation of the full programme;
- Ensure that all the venues hosting the working programme and most venues hosting artistic performances are wheelchair accessible.
If you have any questions about the accessibility at the IETM Brussels Focus 2022, please get in touch with us by writing to francisca.salgueiro@ietm.org.
Brussels is a very vibrant multicultural city at a somewhat human scale. It is home to a diverse number of communities and has at least 4 widely spoken and written languages: French, Flemish (a Dutch dialect), English and Arabic — so you never know which language the person in front of you will speak.
Please note that in Brussels, street names are written in French and Flemish. You should check twice whether you are on the right street or not by checking the name of the street in both languages.
