Mind the gap: audience, governance and policies
Why should we do participatory work? Is it possible for cultural institutions to manage cultural democracy? What are the power structures underlying participatory practices? To what extent is the participatory agenda aligned with the neoliberal agenda? How can we rethink participatory theatre? These questions were at the heart of the discussions of this session.
Transnational Unions to revive democracy
Departing from the current political, economic, humanitarian, and environmental crises of Europe, this session gathered ideas to revive democracy and the European project, while rejecting ultra-nationalist parties that demand separation from the European Union and seek to return to a mythical notion of the nation-state, as well as the political-economical functionary elite that has used the EU for its austerity politics.
Postcolonial minefields
To what extent is international cooperation structured by cultural identity or, on the contrary, does it build bridges between cultures? What decides the methods, the topics and structures involved in intercultural dialogue? How does cultural diplomacy and international cultural cooperation create equity and mutual understanding? These questions were at the heart of the discussions of this session.
International producing organisations: soon the end of the competition (?)
This report summarises the findings from the three roundtables held during the session on hierarchical models within producing organisations, the relationship between the artist and the producer, and stories of success and failure regarding international cooperation.
