an open rehearsal with excerpts from ŞEHR’Ü EVLÂD’ÜZ-ZİYAN: THE CITY OF LOST CHILDREN
Address: CRR (Cemal Reşit Rey) Concert Hall Darülbedayi Caddesi - Harbiye Şişli
Duration: 30’
Free of charge for IETM participants
Designed & Directed by: Şafak Uysal; Original Text by: Beliz Güçbilmez; Conceptual Framework & Dramaturgy: [laboratuar]; Created & Performed by: Canberk Yıldız, Çağla Gülol, Eren Gülbey, Fulya Tekin, Güneş Özkal, Şamil Taşkın, Bonnie & Clyde; Sound & Visual Design: Doğuş Bitecik; Costume Design: Bahar Korçan; Set Construction: Alfa Beta Makine.
“Sometimes this city delves into a cloud of rain. Every day, the same hour. In the spring. For forty days…” ŞEHR’Ü EVLÂD’ÜZ-ZİYAN {SEZ} is a play about the times in which we live, about dreams that blend into each other at the moment of awakening, about nightmares and realities. It is a play that sets off from the experience of a city, that of Ankara, from the perspective of a
generation that has grown in the climate and aftermath of 1980s. The story of a city which begins right in the middle, like all stories... A documentary fantasy, in which something happens some day and nothing remains the same no more… A dream… “This is the story of an effort – to compensate. The story of those who were kids during 80s but who can only remember the post-80s. After everything else, this is the story of Ankara…” {SEZ} is an urban legend as much true as fictive. A city walked about by steps that get lost, not because they are not taken but rather because they are not engraved. A city in which even the most familiar gets lost. A city of “nows,” suspended between a past impossible to recollect and a future impossible to conceive. Thus, here we are, somewhere in the nook of this city that begins everyday anew again, in a bar from which time has retreated. There, a man and a woman – who drink so as to sleep, who cuddle up as they drink, who constantly chatter about nothing. “How do you distinguish the photographs of those who are sleeping from those who are dead? We thought they were asleep, we thought we were not alone… Yet…”

İstanbul Audio Tour initiated by CUMA Contemporary Utopia Management with the support of the İstanbul 2010 ECOC Agency is a program that intends to frame İstanbul not just from an artist's point of view but through the insights and voices of designers, urban planners and artisans. It aims to communicate the variations between different perspectives, and to expose if only a few of the diverse expressions of Beyoglu to the local and international visitors as well as the public at large. The participant will follow the designated city tracks (specific routes) listening to the tracks recorded by the artist/designer/urban planner/shopkeeper on MP3 players. In the audio tours, the participants will also be provided with directions to be able to follow the predetermined routes while listening to these recordings designed to introduce them to an "İstanbul" perceived and lived in by the artist / designer / urban planner / shopkeeper.
The project’s second phase will be realized in 2010 and 2011, this time pointing to the fact that while the big cities of the world develop in terms of context and content, as they evolve into metropolises, they tend to resemble each other rather than grow different. The project will be held in collaboration between CUMA /// Contemporary Utopia Management (İstanbul), Hebbel Am Ufer – HAU (Berlin), Soundtrackcity (in progress (Amsterdam)).

session will be following at the end. Nigar A Solo performance of Contemporary Dance “I thought of Nigar, the day I was walking on that street. Colorful bed sheets hanged on the ropes of the small balcony… They were dancing. I was fascinated…The breath that I took every time when I raised my head to look at them, made me dizzy when I looked down to see my way. Roses, daisies, lilies, lilacs, pinks, violets…I could not help thinking. Who is sleeping, who is tenderly touching, who are crying in silence, who are trying to forget while suffering to death… I wanted to forget. Nigar, I called. Now her intimacy is struggling on the street. Despite of the breathlessness at her home, she is full of air, flying. I am Aytul Hasaltun. I dance and sometimes I write. I remembered. I hanged my sheets on the following day.”
